Putting together a Benefit for a Family who lost all to a fire.

spag

My posts are usually tied to The Rainbow Pants book or at least my writing. This one will be different. I live in a small town in Maine. Sometimes when you live in a small town it is difficult, everybody knows your business, there are small town politics, people with certain last names tend to run the town. BUT not here in Orrington. We are definitely small town, and sure I suppose people do know what is going on in neighborhoods, but for the most part we all get along. How we shine here in Orrington and truly show our colors is after a tragedy.

A little over a year ago in our town a fire ripped through a home killing 3 kids and their dad, it was a tragedy like no other. We all rallied around the mom and also tried to help our fire department who bared witness to this heartbreak. On January 1st of this year, we heard the sirens again. The family lost their home and all of the contents as well as a family dog, but all were alive and are now learning how to be survivors of a fire.

On Sunday we will be holding a benefit spaghetti lunch with a raffle. Many businesses and local people have donated items and food for the lunch. We can only hope this will be a success for this family. If you are in the Orrington, Maine area on Sunday from 12-2 come on by to the Center Drive School. Consider yourself invited.

Maine Lighthouse Museum Book Signing and a Sweet Antique Yellow Car

maine lighthouse signing

There is something to be said about entering a building and feeling like you walked back in time. Museum’s always bring me that feeling. I get lost in different decades and what people had to do just to survive. The rustiest piece of equipment, or burnt out lighthouse light are screaming to tell its story. I was honored to spend the day at The Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland on Saturday. I shared the day with 10 other incredibly talented Maine authors at a book signing event.  I was lucky enough (you can see in the photo above) to sit by a sweet yellow car.  Now I am not a car person so I could not tell you what kind of car this was, but I can tell you it was beautiful!!!

Saturday was Open Lighthouse day, many of our amazing lighthouses were open to the public. If anyone has a chance, take a step inside a lighthouse and listen to its story. I bet you will hear drama, mystery, romance and comedy all wrapped around that beacon of light that has always protected us  in the stormiest of seas.

When you visit the Maine Lighthouse Museum check out their amazing gift shop, they have added a bit of a “rainbow” to their shelves. You can now get your copy of The Rainbow Pants. : “Happy Yellow Pants” are worn today!!!
